India, US ink Space Situational Awareness Agreement during fourth 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue

India and US signed a Space Situational Awareness Agreement during the fourth 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue in Washington.

The landmark development is the outcome of five years of efforts between India and the US. The signing of the Space Situational Awareness (SSA) will help in the exchange of data on the threat posed to the satellites and other assets between the two countries.

The agreement was signed between India’s Department of Space and US’ Department of Defence in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar representing Indian side, with Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken representing the US side.

During the Dialgoue, the two sides also agreed on commencing the defence space and defence Artificial Intelligence dialogues in near future, and decided to work on increasing the scope and complexity of the bilateral military exercises.

The leaders also agreed to explore further cooperation in the fields of Defence Cyber, Special Forces and expanding the scope of logistics cooperation under LEMOA and during joint exercises.
