Air Force Technical College was established on 04 July 1949 with Gp Capt J Beaumont, DFC as the first Commandant. The College was established as part of the Royal Air Force (UK). The College was known to train the technicians of the Royal Air Force. After Independence on 06 Jul 1956, the college was named as Air Force Technical College and started to train Indian technicians. The College imparts technical training to fresh graduate engineers. The college has contributed towards aviation technical training within the three services.

The College till date has trained officers of the IAF and the Sister Services, including Scientists from DRDO, international students and HAL officers. It has trained 102 Army officers, 111 Naval officers and more than 419 Women officers. The AFTC also trains International Officers from friendly foreign countries. AFTC has trained 276 officers of 19 friendly foreign countries. The Cadets get trained in the Aircraft Systems, Radars, Communication Devices, Weapon systems and other Technical of IAF. The Training module is designed to give both practical and theoretical knowledge to the cadets.

Training In Air Force Technical College :
It has two phases training program. The initial training is of 22 weeks in Air Force Academy, Dundigal. The next phase of training is conducted at AFTC, Bangalore. The Training at AFTC is divided into 2 terms of 24 weeks each.
Facilities In Air Force Technical College :
AFTC has a huge collection of Books, Journals & Magazines. It has wifi facilities in the hostel, library and seminar halls. It provides transportation facilities. It organizes compulsory general medical checkup camps. Sports, Gym, and Computer Labs are the other facilities it has.
