YOUR CDS JOURNEY

Course Overview

Joining the Indian Armed Forces as an officer requires more than clearing the CDS written examination. It demands subject knowledge, time management, physical fitness, clear communication and the officer-like qualities assessed at the SSB.

The OGC–Dehradun Defence Academy CDS Coaching Course brings these areas together in one structured programme for graduates and final-year students. It prepares candidates for all four entries: the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officers’ Training Academy.

Written preparation covers the complete CDS syllabus in English, General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics. Classes are supported by customised study material, previous year question papers, daily practice papers, free e-books and handbooks. Weekly tests and full-length mock tests in the real exam format help students track progress and improve speed and accuracy.

SSB preparation runs alongside the written course instead of being left for after the result. Students practise PPDT, WAT, TAT, SRT, group discussions, lecturettes, GTO tasks and mock interviews. The SSB panel includes Colonel Anupam (Retd.), trained GTO; Colonel S. Pande (Retd.), SSB Interviewing Officer; Colonel I. P. S. Rana (Retd.), Psychology; and Shashi Shekhar, Ex-Assistant Commandant and two-time SSB qualifier. Practical training is supported by a dedicated GTO ground and regular individual feedback.

The programme includes supervised physical training under ACE-certified trainers, with indoor and outdoor sports facilities to build stamina, strength and discipline. Special lectures on communication skills and personality development strengthen confidence and self-expression.

Every enrolled student gets free access to the Crack Defence Exams e-learning app, worth ₹19,999, with recorded lectures, mock tests and study resources. A library, Wi-Fi and dedicated doubt-clearing sessions support focused self-study. By combining written preparation, SSB training, fitness and personal development, the course gives CDS aspirants a complete path from the written exam to final merit.

What is the CDS exam?

The Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE) is conducted by UPSC twice a year for graduates who want to become commissioned officers in the Indian Armed Forces.
Through this examination, candidates can apply to the Indian Military Academy (Dehradun), Indian Naval Academy (Ezhimala), Air Force Academy (Hyderabad) and Officers’ Training Academy (Chennai). Selection involves a written examination, SSB interview, medical examination and final merit.

Candidates must be unmarried and meet the nationality, age, education and medical standards in the UPSC notification.

– IMA: Graduation from a recognised university.
Age: 19–24 years.

– INA: B.E./B.Tech from a recognised institution.

– Final-year students: Eligible to apply, subject to submitting proof of passing by the date in the notification.

• English – 2 hours – 100 marks
• General Knowledge – 2 hours – 100 marks
• Elementary Mathematics – 2 hours – 100 marks
• Total written: 300 · SSB: 300 · Total: 600

OTA:

• General Knowledge – 2 hours – 100 marks
• Total written: 200 · SSB: 200 · Total: 400

There is negative marking. One-third of the marks for a question is deducted for a wrong answer. There is no penalty for an unanswered question.

English: Grammar, vocabulary, synonyms and antonyms, comprehension, error spotting, sentence improvement and para jumbles.

General Knowledge: History, Geography, Indian Polity, Economy, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, environment, defence and national and international current affairs.

Elementary Mathematics: Number system, HCF and LCM, percentages, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, ratio and proportion, time and work, time and distance, algebra, logarithms, trigonometry, geometry, mensuration and statistics.

The syllabus is broad and the exam cycle is short, which is why structured preparation with regular mock tests makes a real difference.
