Course Overview
Joining the National Defence Academy requires more than clearing the written examination. It demands strong Mathematics, wide general awareness, good English, physical fitness and the officer-like qualities assessed at the SSB.
The OGC–Dehradun Defence Academy NDA After 12th Course brings these areas together in one structured programme for students who are in Class 12 or have recently passed it. It prepares candidates for the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA and the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme of the Indian Naval Academy.

Written preparation covers the complete NDA syllabus: Mathematics, and the General Ability Test in English, Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History, Geography and current events. Classes are supported by customised study material, handwritten notes, daily practice papers and previous year question papers. Weekly tests with reports and full-length mock tests in the real exam format help students improve speed and accuracy, and manage the negative marking.
SSB preparation runs alongside the written course instead of being left for after the result. Students practise OIR, PPDT, WAT, TAT, SRT, group discussions, lecturettes, GTO tasks and mock interviews. The SSB panel includes Colonel Anupam (Retd.), ex-GTO; Colonel I.P.S. Rana (Retd.), SSB Psychology; and Shashi Shekhar, ex-Assistant Commandant. Practical training is supported by a dedicated GTO ground and regular individual feedback.
The programme includes rigorous physical training under ACE-certified trainers, working towards targets such as a 2.4 km run in 15 minutes, push-ups, sit-ups, chin-ups and rope climbing, with indoor and outdoor sports facilities. Communication lectures by TOEFL-certified trainers strengthen confidence for the interview.
Spoken English, debates, group discussions and personality-development sessions strengthen communication and self-expression. Individual mentoring, academic supervision and regular progress reports help students remain consistent while keeping parents informed.
Every enrolled student gets free access to the Crack Defence Exams e-learning app, worth ₹19,999, with recorded lectures, an NDA mock test series and study resources. By combining written preparation, SSB training, fitness and personal development, the course gives NDA aspirants a complete path from the written exam to final merit.

What is the NDA exam?
The National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (NDA & NA EXAM) is conducted by the UPSC for students aspiring to become officers in the Indian Armed Forces after Class 12.
Through this examination, candidates can apply for the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy, as well as the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme of the Indian Naval Academy. Selection involves a written examination, SSB assessment, medical examination and final merit.
Who is eligible to apply for NDA?
Both unmarried male and female candidates can apply, provided they meet the age, educational, nationality and medical requirements mentioned in the relevant UPSC notification.
– Army Wing: Class 12 passed or appearing students from any recognised stream.
– Air Force and Naval Wings: Class 12 passed or appearing students with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
– Indian Naval Academy: Class 12 passed or appearing students with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
– Class 11 students: Not eligible to appear for the examination, but they can begin foundation-level preparation.
The permitted date-of-birth range changes with every examination. For example, NDA II 2026 accepted candidates born between 1 January 2008 and 1 January 2011. Students should always check the latest notification before applying.
What is the NDA exam pattern and marking scheme?
The written examination consists of two objective-type papers:
- Mathematics – 2½ hours – 300 marks
- General Ability Test 2½ hours 600 marks
-Total Written Marks: 900
-SSB Test and Interview: 900
The complete selection process is therefore assessed out of 1,800 marks – 900 for the written examination and 900 for the SSB.
There is negative marking in the written exam. One-third of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for an incorrect answer. If more than one option is marked, it is treated as incorrect. There is no penalty for leaving a question unanswered
What is included in the NDA syllabus?
The NDA written examination covers Mathematics, English and General Knowledge.
Mathematics includes:
– Algebra
– Matrices and determinants
– Trigonometry
– Two- and three-dimensional geometry
– Differential calculus
– Integral calculus and differential equations
– Vector algebra
– Statistics and probability
General Ability Test includes:
– English: Grammar, vocabulary, usage, comprehension and cohesion
– Physics
– Chemistry
– General Science
– History and the Indian Freedom Movement
– Indian Constitution and administration
– Geography
– National and international current affairs
The syllabus is broad, which is why early preparation helps students strengthen concepts gradually instead of trying to cover everything close to the examination.
