When Arya Ashok first walked into OGC – Dehradun Defence Academy, she didn’t arrive as the boldest voice in the room. She was quiet, deeply inquisitive and often more comfortable observing than speaking.
Today, that same girl stands at All India Rank 1.
Three SSB recommendations, an earlier All India Rank 13, and now AIR 1 mark an extraordinary journey. But the numbers tell only one part of Arya’s story.
The real journey was about finding her voice, learning to trust her instincts and gradually discovering the confidence that had always existed within her.
It Started With the Written Exam
Before the recommendations and ranks came the first written examination.
Arya cleared AFCAT 02 2025, beginning a journey that would soon take her from the classroom to the Services Selection Board.
Inside the academy’s structured environment, with the steady guidance of the written-exam faculty, her natural inquisitiveness found a system to work with. Curiosity became method. Questions became understanding.
Clearing the written examination was the first indication of what was hiding beneath that quiet personality: a sharp and capable mind that simply needed the right platform.
The Hesitation No One Else Could See
The bigger transformation began once Arya moved into SSB preparation at SSBOG, the academy’s SSB wing.
During her early group discussions, one pattern became clear.
Arya often had valid, well-formed points, but she would hold them back. She would wait for the right moment, hesitate, and sometimes allow that moment to pass completely.
Arya recalls:
“Initially, I used to hesitate while speaking in group discussions, even when I had valid points.”
It is one of the most common but least visible struggles among aspirants: knowing that you have something meaningful to contribute but not yet having the confidence to put it forward.
For Arya, overcoming that hesitation became one of the most important parts of her preparation.
Finding Her Voice
The change did not happen overnight.
It came through repeated discussions, feedback, practice and the gradual understanding that confidence does not mean becoming the loudest person in the room.
It means trusting what you have to say.
Slowly, Arya stopped waiting to be drawn into discussions.
She began participating more naturally, putting forward her ideas with greater clarity and eventually developing the confidence to initiate discussions herself.
The knowledge had always been there.
What changed was her willingness to trust it.
Refine, Don’t Replace
A similar realization shaped Arya’s approach to the psychological tests.
She discovered that she did not need to manufacture an entirely different personality to fit some imagined definition of an officer.
Her thoughts already had substance. They simply needed better structure and clarity.
Working closely with her mentor, Shashi Sir, Arya learned to move away from overthinking and from searching for the supposedly “ideal” response.
Instead, the focus shifted towards responses that were practical, natural and genuinely reflective of her own personality and officer-like qualities.
As Arya puts it:
“Improvement was not about changing myself completely, but about refining the qualities I already possessed.”
That realization became central to her progress.
She stopped trying to become somebody else and started becoming a more confident, composed and articulate version of herself.
The First Recommendation: AFCAT 02 2025
Arya’s first major breakthrough came after clearing AFCAT 02 2025.
She appeared before 3 AFSB Gandhinagar and earned her first SSB recommendation.
The achievement became even more significant when the final merit list was declared.
Arya secured All India Rank 13.
For someone who had once hesitated despite knowing exactly what she wanted to say, AIR 13 was already a remarkable milestone.
But Arya’s journey was far from over.
The Second Recommendation: AFCAT 01 2026
Arya appeared for AFCAT once again, this time clearing AFCAT 01 2026.
She returned to 3 AFSB Gandhinagar.
And she was recommended again.
It became her second consecutive recommendation from 3 AFSB Gandhinagar, demonstrating that the first success had not been a one-off result.
Her final result for AFCAT 01 2026 is yet to be announced.
But before that chapter could even conclude, another opportunity had already opened.
And this one would produce the biggest result of her journey so far.
The Third Recommendation: 34 SSB Allahabad
Arya next appeared through the SSCW Tech 2026 entry for the Indian Army.
This time, she faced 34 SSB Allahabad.
Once again, she was recommended.
Her third SSB appearance leading to a recommendation added another achievement to an already impressive record.
Then came the merit list.
And this time, Arya did not finish 13th.
She finished first.
All India Rank 1
Arya Ashok secured All India Rank 1 in SSCW Tech 2026, completing a remarkable progression from a hesitant aspirant to the candidate standing at the very top of the merit list.
The timeline now speaks for itself:
- AFCAT 02 2025: Recommended from 3 AFSB Gandhinagar | All India Rank 13
- AFCAT 01 2026: Recommended again from 3 AFSB Gandhinagar | Final result awaited
- SSCW Tech 2026: Recommended from 34 SSB Allahabad | All India Rank 1
Three recommendations.
Two different services.
An All India Rank 13.
And now, All India Rank 1.
Yet the most important part of Arya’s journey cannot be captured by a rank alone.
From Holding Back to Standing First
The guidance and consistent practice did not create a different Arya.
They helped bring out the person who was already there.
The girl who once had valid points but hesitated to speak eventually learned to trust her thoughts.
The aspirant who once overthought psychological responses learned to rely on her natural judgement.
And the student who entered quietly eventually walked away with All India Rank 1.
