Mayank, who comes from the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, was brought up in Dehradun near Laxmi Garhi, Mehuwala, and completed his intermediate education (12th grade) at SGRR Public School, Vasant Vihar, Dehradun.
Mayank was an average kid who dreamed of serving in the armed forces, and he put in extraordinary efforts to make this dream come true. In his own words, his greatest challenge was English, leading him to take two English lectures daily, while his strength lay in mathematics. While studying with us he used to study NCERT as well for mathematics.
Mayank was always regular in our classroom programme and never skipped his homework. All we did was show him the way, and he walked it with great determination, and the result is obvious “recommended from 33 SSB Bhopal”.
During an interaction with his juniors, one asked him how he improved his communication skills. His answer was, “ I used to watch manga and repeat those dialogues”. Manga (Japanese anime) serves two purposes, one, it helps you with spoken English and enrich your vocabulary, two, it serves as a source of motivation.
If there is anything to learn from the journey of this young kid is that one must be disciplined committed and regular, making every dream and goal seem attainable. The story of Mayank is a story of every young man with ordinary circumstances and extraordinary goals. His story will serve as a guiding post and will inspire our youth to dream big and then act on it.
