WAT Practice Set: 100 Words with Sample Answers

WAT Practice Set: 100 Words with Sample Answers

The Word Association Test (WAT) is a key part of the psychological assessment conducted during the SSB interview process for the Indian Armed Forces.

During WAT, candidates are shown a series of words one after another on a screen, typically around 60 words. Each word appears for about 15 seconds, and within that short time, the candidate must write a complete sentence based on the word.

The purpose is not to test English or vocabulary, but to understand how your mind works. Psychologists observe your natural thought patterns, attitude, emotional stability, and whether you possess Officer Like Qualities (OLQs) such as leadership, responsibility, optimism, and decision-making.

The words are simple, everyday words – not tough vocabulary. They are chosen to bring out your thoughts across different areas of life.

Types of words you may see:

  • Positive: Courage, Honesty, Success, Friendship
  • Neutral: Chair, Book, River, School
  • Abstract: Future, Change, Duty, Trust
  • Negative: Fear, Death, Problem, Failure
  • Defence/Social: Soldier, Discipline, Nation, Teamwork

Here are 100 WAT practice words with sample responses to help you prepare effectively for the SSB interview:
