There are two ways to join IAF i.e, Commissioned and Non-Commissioned. The duties of the Commissioned and non-Commissioned officers are different.
Ways To Join Indian Air Force As Commissioned Officers :
(1) By Qualifying The NDA Exam : The NDA exam is conducted by UPSC twice every year. NDA exam is for male candidates only, who have passed 12th Class with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The age limit for the NDA exam is 16.5 to 19 yrs old.

(2) By Qualifying The CDS Exam : The CDS exam is conducted by UPSC twice every year. The candidates who have a graduation degree from any recognized university are eligible for this entry. Age limit for this entry is 19-24 yrs old.

(3) Medical
(3) By Qualifying The AFCAT Exam : The AFCAT Exam is conducted by Indian Air Force twice a year. Candidates who have completed the graduation degree in any discipline, are eligible for this entry. Age limit for this entry is 19-24 yrs old.

(4) By NCC Special Entry : Candidates who have completed graduation degree with an aggregate of a minimum 50% marks and have a minimum of ‘B’ Grade in the ‘C’ Certificate Exam of NCC in Upper division, are eligible to apply for this entry. Age limit for this entry is 19-24 yrs old.

Ways to Join Indian IAF as Non-Commissioned Officers:-
By Air Force Group X and Y Exam : One can become an Airmen in the Indian air force through this entry. The X group is for Technical entry and Y group is for the Non-Technical entry.

Eligibility for X & Y group of Indian Air force:
For Group X (Except Education Instructor Trade) : The candidate must have passed Intermediate with Mathematics, Physics, and English with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English.
For Group Y (Except Automobile Technician) : The Candidate must have Passed 10+2 in any stream with minimum 50% marks, with 50% marks in English.
