The TES Entry (Technical Entry Scheme) is a recruitment process by the Indian Army that allows 10+2 students to join the Indian Army as officers in technical branches. This scheme provides an opportunity for young and talented candidates with a background in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in their 10+2 to receive a permanent commission in the Indian Army.
Candidates are selected based on their performance in the 12th-grade PCM percentage, JEE Main rank, and the SSB Interview.
Vacancies: 90 seats are available per course, with two recruitment cycles every year.
The official notification for TES recruitment is published in Employment News and leading daily newspapers, typically in May/June and October/November, or on the official website of the Indian Army.
Eligibility Criteria for TES Entry
Age Limit for TES Entry:
Candidates must be between 16½ to 19½ years as of the first day of the month in which the course is scheduled to begin.
Educational Qualification for TES Entry:
10+2 Examination: Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination or its equivalent, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as subjects.
Minimum Marks: A minimum of 60% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics is required.
JEE (Mains): Candidates must have appeared for the JEE (Mains) 2024 examination for B.E./B.Tech.
Marital Status for TES Entry:
As per the official notification for the 10+2 Technical Entry Scheme (TES-53), the marital status eligibility is as follows:
Candidates who marry during training will be discharged from the training and will be required to refund all the expenditure incurred by the government on their training.
Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to apply for the TES entry.
Candidates must not be married at the time of application.
If a candidate marries after applying or during the training period, they will be disqualified and will not be allowed to continue the training.
Nationality: Indian citizens (or Subjects of Nepal, or Persons of Indian origin from specific countries (e.g., Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka) with an intention to permanently settle in India. For these candidates, a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India is required.)
Medical and Physical Standards: Candidates must meet the prescribed medical standards. Detailed standards can be found on the official Indian Army website.
Additional Conditions:
Candidates should not have been debarred from appearing in any examination by UPSC or involved in any criminal case.
The date of birth as recorded in the Matriculation/Secondary School Examination certificate will be accepted.
TES Entry Selection Process:
Shortlisting:
Eligibility: Candidates are shortlisted based on their 12th-grade PCM percentage (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) and JEE Mains rank.
Cut-off: A cut-off percentage is determined, and only those candidates who meet the required criteria are shortlisted.
Call Letter: Shortlisted candidates receive a call letter for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview.
SSB Interview (5 Days):
Day 1 (Stage 1):
Screening: The first day involves a psychological test and Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT) to assess the candidate’s mental ability and understanding.
Candidates who clear Stage 1 proceed to Stage 2.
Day 2-5 (Stage 2):
Psychological Tests: Includes tests like WAT (Word Association Test), TAT (Thematic Apperception Test), and SRT (Situation Reaction Test) to evaluate mental agility, reasoning, and personality.
GTO Tasks: Group discussions, group planning exercises, and individual tasks assess leadership qualities, teamwork, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
Personal Interview: A one-on-one interview with the Interviewing Officer to assess motivation, communication, and suitability for the Army.
Medical Examination:
- After the SSB interview, candidates who are recommended are required to undergo a medical examination.
- The medical examination is conducted by a board of Service Medical Officers (SMOs) to ensure the candidates meet the necessary physical and health standards.
Final Selection:
- Merit List: Candidates who are medically fit and meet the required criteria are placed in a merit list based on their performance in the SSB interview.
- Joining Letter: Recommended candidates receive a joining letter for training at the Cadet Training Wings (CTW), and the final selection is made depending on the availability of vacancies.
TES Entry Training
Duration of Training:
- The total training duration is 4 years:
- Phase 1: 1 year of pre-commissioning training at OTA Gaya.
- Phase 2: 3 years of engineering training at one of the following institutes:
- CME Pune (for Civil & Mechanical Engineering)
- MCTE Mhow (for IT & Telecom Engineering)
- MCEME Secunderabad (for Electrical & Mechanical Engineering)
2. Phase 1: Pre-commissioning Training:
- Location: The first year of training is conducted at OTA Gaya (Officer Training Academy Gaya).
- Focus: This phase includes military training alongside the beginning of engineering education. It covers basic military skills, leadership qualities, physical fitness, and discipline.
3. Phase 2: Engineering Training:
- Location: After the first year, candidates will be assigned to one of the following Cadet Training Wings (CTWs) for the next three years of engineering studies:
- CME Pune: Offers training in Civil and Mechanical Engineering.
- MCTE Mhow: Offers training in IT and Telecom Engineering.
- MCEME Secunderabad: Offers training in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
- Focus: Candidates will undergo an integrated training program combining military training and engineering education. Upon successful completion of this phase, candidates will earn a B.Tech degree in the respective engineering streams.
4. Engineering Degree:
- After completing 4 years of training, candidates will be awarded an Engineering degree in their respective discipline. However, candidates should note that no ante-dated seniority is granted based on this degree.
- Relegation Policy: If needed, candidates can be relegated (i.e., sent back) on academic grounds. A maximum of two relegations are allowed, but any further relegation will lead to withdrawal from training.
5. Commissioning:
- Rank: After completing the 4 years of training and graduation, candidates are commissioned as Lieutenants in the Indian Army.
- Type of Commission: The commission is Permanent, and candidates will serve as officers in various technical branches of the Indian Army, with many being posted to the Corps of Engineers, Corps of Signals, or Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers.

Online Registration:
Visit the official Indian Army recruitment website: www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.
Click on the “Registration” tab and fill in your personal details as per your matriculation certificate.
Ensure your email ID and mobile number are active and unique.
After registration, you’ll receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on your email and mobile. Enter this OTP to complete the registration process
Application Submission:
Log in using your registered email ID and password.

Application Fee:
As per the official notification, there is no application fee for the TES entry.
Acknowledgment:
After submission, you’ll receive a confirmation message on the screen.
Print two copies of the application form with the generated Roll Number. Retain one copy for your records and carry the other to the Selection Centre during the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview.

- Military Service Pay (MSP): ₹15,500 per month for all ranks.

- Children Education Allowance (CEA): ₹2,250 per month per child (for two children, from Nursery to 12th Class).
- Hostel Subsidy: ₹6,750 per month per child (for two children, from Nursery to 12th Class).
- Risk and Hardship Allowance: ₹5,300 to ₹42,500 per month depending on the area of deployment.
