Malabar Exercise 2021, which began as a bilateral exercise, is now quad forces exercise. Quad nations are India, Japan, the United States and Australia.
The 25th release of the Malabar Exercise 2021 began at the shore of Guam in the Pacific Ocean on August 26.
Malabar is a multilateral naval war exercise that started in 1992. It began as a bilateral exercise between the India Navy and the United States Navy. Its second and third editions were carried out in 1995 and 1996, after which there was a break until 2002. In 2005 Japan became a permanent participant in the naval exercise. Singapore and Australia have participated in this exercise a few times as non permanent members. India has refused Australia’s bid to participate in the drill, for the past two years.

The P8I long-range maritime patrol aircraft, INS Kadmatt anti-submarine warfare corvette, and INS Shivalik multirole frigate were part of 2021 Malabar exercise. The US Navy was represented by the USNS Big Horn,USS Barry, P8A patrol aircraft and USNS Rappahannock.
The Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force is represented by the JS Murasame, JS Shiranui destroyers, JS Kaga and P1 patrol aircraft.
The Royal Australian Navy represented by the HMAS Warramunga.
In 2007, there were two Malabar Exercises. The leading Okinawa island of Japan in the western Pacific, and second Malabar Exercise was held in September 2007, off Visakhapatnam.

The 22nd Malabar trilateral naval exercise was conducted in the Philippines Sea. It was attended by three permanent members India, the US and Japan. It was a two phase exercise, a harbour phase at Naval Base Guam from 7 to 10 June, and a sea phase from 11 to 16 June. The preparation was centered around very good quality conflict battling ranges of abilities, clinical tasks, educated authority and expert trades, harm control, consolidated transporter strike bunch activities, seizure activities, oceanic patrol and reconnaissance operations, surface and anti-submarine warfare, helicopter operations, and visit, board, search.
