The Officers Training Academy was established to train officers for the Short Service Commission. OTA prepares graduates for all branches, except for the Medical Corps. OTA (officer training academy) was established on 15 January 1963, in Chennai. OTA (officer training academy) produces approximately 750 Army Officers each year. OTA is the only academy in the country to grant short service commission to the women in the army.

Here are ways to join Officer Training Academy Chennai :

Through CDSE : Men and Women can join OTA (officer training academy) for Non-Technical Branch of In through Combined Defence Services Exam, conducted by UPSC twice a year. The Exam for OTA (officer training academy) Comprises of two papers English and General Awareness, both of 120 objective type questions of two hour duration.

SSC-Tech Entry : Men/Women who are technical graduates can join through Short Service Commission Technical Entries. Candidates don’t need to give any written exam and the shortlisting of applications is done on the basis of cut-off percentage of graduation ( B.Tech/B.E ). SSC-Tech Entry comes twice a year.

NCC Special Entry Scheme : Candidates who have degree from a recognized University or equivalent with aggregate of minimum 50%, served for minimum two academic years in the senior Division/Wing of NCC and should have obtained minimum of ‘B’ Grade in ‘C’ Certificate Exam of NCC, can apply through NCC Special Entry. Short listed candidates are directly called for SSB.
